Description
These baked apple fritters are a healthier twist on the classic fried treat, made with fresh apples and warm spices, then baked to golden perfection and glazed for extra sweetness.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples (about 2 medium apples)
- 1 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1–2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk, applesauce, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the chopped apples.
- Scoop mounds of batter onto the prepared baking sheet using a large spoon or ice cream scoop.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the fritters are baking, make the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Let the fritters cool slightly, then drizzle with the glaze before serving.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor contrast.
- Let the fritters cool before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
- You can add chopped nuts or raisins for extra texture.
