Description

These baked apple fritters are a healthier twist on the classic fried treat, made with fresh apples and warm spices, then baked to golden perfection and glazed for extra sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 12 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk, applesauce, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the chopped apples.
  5. Scoop mounds of batter onto the prepared baking sheet using a large spoon or ice cream scoop.
  6. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. While the fritters are baking, make the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  8. Let the fritters cool slightly, then drizzle with the glaze before serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor contrast.
  • Let the fritters cool before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
  • You can add chopped nuts or raisins for extra texture.
