Description

A savory and satisfying Chinese-American dish made with tender beef, vegetables, and lo mein noodles tossed in a flavorful sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 oz lo mein noodles
  • 1/2 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (for marinating)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup sliced carrots
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (for sauce)
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Cook lo mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine sliced beef with 2 tbsp soy sauce and cornstarch. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add beef and stir-fry until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add remaining oil to the skillet. Stir-fry garlic, ginger, broccoli, carrots, and bell pepper for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and water to make the sauce.
  6. Return beef to the skillet. Add cooked noodles and sauce. Toss everything together and cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
  • Substitute vegetables as desired (e.g., snap peas, mushrooms).
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce salt content.
