Description

A hearty and comforting breakfast dish that combines fluffy biscuits, savory sausage gravy, and eggs in a baked casserole form.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuits
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk (for eggs)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and cooked through. Do not drain the grease.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups milk, stirring constantly until a thick gravy forms. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes if using. Remove from heat.
  5. Cut the biscuits into quarters and spread half of them in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuits.
  7. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with 1/4 cup milk. Pour the egg mixture over the gravy layer.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
  9. Add the remaining biscuit pieces on top.
  10. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the eggs are set and the biscuits are golden brown.
  11. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use spicy sausage for an extra kick.
  • Can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight before baking.
  • Top with chopped chives or parsley for added flavor and color.
