A hearty and comforting breakfast dish that combines fluffy biscuits, savory sausage gravy, and eggs in a baked casserole form.
Ingredients
- 1 lb breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuits
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk (for eggs)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and cooked through. Do not drain the grease.
- Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually add 2 1/2 cups milk, stirring constantly until a thick gravy forms. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper flakes if using. Remove from heat.
- Cut the biscuits into quarters and spread half of them in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuits.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with 1/4 cup milk. Pour the egg mixture over the gravy layer.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
- Add the remaining biscuit pieces on top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the eggs are set and the biscuits are golden brown.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use spicy sausage for an extra kick.
- Can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight before baking.
- Top with chopped chives or parsley for added flavor and color.
