Description
Crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, these fried cheese curds are a popular snack or appetizer, especially in the Midwest.
Ingredients
- 1 pound cheese curds
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 cup beer (or club soda for non-alcoholic version)
- 1 large egg
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
- Add the beer and egg to the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth to form a batter.
- Dip the cheese curds into the batter, coating them completely.
- Carefully drop the battered curds into the hot oil, a few at a time.
- Fry until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes, then remove with a slotted spoon.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

- Use fresh cheese curds for the best texture and flavor.
- Do not overcrowd the fryer to maintain the oil temperature.
