Description

A fun and whimsical layered dessert featuring a chocolate cookie crust, creamy pudding filling, gummy worms, and crushed cookies to look like ‘dirt,’ perfect for parties or kid-friendly treats.

Ingredients

  • 24 chocolate sandwich cookies (e.g., Oreos), crushed
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 (3.4 oz) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (e.g., Cool Whip), thawed
  • 1 cup chocolate sandwich cookies, coarsely chopped (for topping)
  • Gummy worms, for garnish
  • Optional: ½ cup chocolate chips or mini candy pieces

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine crushed cookies and melted butter until the crumbs are evenly moistened.
  2. Press the crumb mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9‑inch pie pan to form the crust.
  3. Refrigerate crust while preparing filling.
  4. In a bowl, whisk the pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes until thickened.
  5. Gently fold in the whipped topping until fully combined.
  6. Spread the pudding mixture evenly into the chilled cookie crust.
  7. Sprinkle the top with coarsely chopped cookies to resemble dirt.
  8. Arrange gummy worms on top, partially buried in the ‘dirt.’
  9. Optional: sprinkle chocolate chips or candy pieces over the top.
  10. Chill the pie for at least 1 hour before serving to set.
  11. Slice and serve cold, adding extra gummy worms if desired.

Notes

  • Make ahead: Prepare up to 24 hours in advance; cover and refrigerate.
  • For a cleaner crust edge, use a tart pan with a removable bottom.
  • Variations: Use vanilla pudding for a lighter look or peanut butter pudding for a twist.
  • For added texture, fold crushed peanuts or toffee bits into the filling.
  • Keep refrigerated; consume within 2–3 days for best freshness.
