Description

This Easy Crock Pot French Toast Casserole is a simple, make-ahead breakfast dish that’s perfect for weekends, holidays, or feeding a crowd. Made with bread, eggs, milk, and warm spices, it’s slow-cooked to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread, cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries

Instructions

  1. Grease the inside of your crock pot with non-stick spray or butter.
  2. Place cubed French bread evenly in the crock pot.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing down lightly to ensure all the bread is soaked.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 2.5-3 hours, until the casserole is set and the edges are slightly golden.
  7. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve warm with desired toppings like maple syrup or powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Use day-old or slightly stale bread for best texture.
  • Customize with add-ins like chopped nuts or raisins.
  • To save time, prep the night before and refrigerate until ready to cook.
