Description

A classic and comforting dish, this Easy Shepherd’s Pie features savory ground beef and vegetables topped with creamy mashed potatoes and baked until golden.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 1 cup frozen corn
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared ahead)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for topping)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and ground beef, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Cook for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Add peas, carrots, and corn. Simmer for 5 minutes, season with salt and pepper.
  6. Transfer the meat mixture into a baking dish and spread mashed potatoes on top evenly.
  7. Dot with butter and bake for 20–25 minutes or until the top is golden.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground lamb for a traditional version.
  • Use instant mashed potatoes for a quicker option.
  • Add shredded cheese on top for extra flavor.
