- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing on top)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the buttermilk and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
- Fold the dough over itself 2-3 times to create layers, then pat it out again.
- Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Remove from oven and brush the tops with melted butter.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Make sure the butter and buttermilk are very cold for the fluffiest biscuits.
- Do not overwork the dough to avoid tough biscuits.
- Use a sharp cutter and do not twist when cutting the biscuits.
