Description

A flavorful, tangy, sweet, and savory sauce that’s essential for authentic Pad Thai. This sauce combines tamarind, fish sauce, sugar, and a hint of spice for a well-balanced Thai flavor.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar or palm sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind paste
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha or chili garlic sauce (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water (optional for thinning)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar, tamarind paste, and Sriracha.
  2. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved and the sauce is smooth.
  3. Add water if a thinner consistency is desired.
  4. Taste and adjust the seasoning to balance sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors.
  5. Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Use tamarind paste for authentic flavor; vinegar can be used as a substitute.
  • Adjust sugar and spice to taste preference.
  • Can be made vegan by using soy sauce instead of fish sauce.
  • Freezes well for longer storage.
