A festive and colorful marble cake featuring red, white, and blue swirls, perfect for patriotic celebrations like the 4th of July or Memorial Day.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- Red food coloring
- Blue food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt or loaf pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter into three bowls. Leave one bowl plain, add red food coloring to one, and blue to another. Stir until well mixed.
- Spoon dollops of each color into the prepared pan, alternating colors. Swirl gently with a knife to create a marbled effect.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple glaze before serving.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for more vibrant colors.
- Do not over-swirl the batter to keep the colors distinct.
- This cake can be frozen for up to 2 months.
