Description

A savory and sweet breakfast casserole combining sausage, maple syrup, and waffles, perfect for brunch or a make-ahead morning treat.

Ingredients

  • 6 frozen waffles, toasted and cut into cubes
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup, plus extra for serving
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Butter or nonstick spray, for greasing the baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain excess grease.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer half of the waffle cubes in the prepared baking dish, followed by half of the cooked sausage and cheese. Repeat layers.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the waffle and sausage layers.
  6. Press down gently to ensure the waffles absorb the liquid. Let sit for 10–15 minutes or refrigerate overnight.
  7. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with additional maple syrup if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use maple-flavored sausage.
  • Can be prepared the night before and baked in the morning.
  • Try adding diced apples or cooked bacon for variation.
