Description

Slow Cooker Butter Chicken is a creamy, spiced Indian-inspired dish made easy in the crockpot. Tender chicken simmers in a rich tomato and cream sauce, perfect for serving with rice or naan.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into chunks
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place chicken, onion, garlic, ginger, garam masala, cumin, paprika, turmeric, chili powder, salt, and tomato sauce into the slow cooker.
  2. Stir to coat the chicken evenly with spices and sauce.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours, until chicken is tender.
  4. Stir in Greek yogurt, heavy cream (or coconut milk), and butter during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Let it heat through.
  5. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
  6. Serve hot with basmati rice or naan bread.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, use coconut milk and a dairy-free yogurt alternative.
  • Adjust spice levels to taste by adding more or less chili powder.
  • Can be frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw and reheat before serving.
