Description
Slow Cooker Butter Chicken is a creamy, spiced Indian-inspired dish made easy in the crockpot. Tender chicken simmers in a rich tomato and cream sauce, perfect for serving with rice or naan.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into chunks
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish
Instructions
- Place chicken, onion, garlic, ginger, garam masala, cumin, paprika, turmeric, chili powder, salt, and tomato sauce into the slow cooker.
- Stir to coat the chicken evenly with spices and sauce.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours, until chicken is tender.
- Stir in Greek yogurt, heavy cream (or coconut milk), and butter during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Let it heat through.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
- Serve hot with basmati rice or naan bread.
Notes
- For a dairy-free version, use coconut milk and a dairy-free yogurt alternative.
- Adjust spice levels to taste by adding more or less chili powder.
- Can be frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw and reheat before serving.
